Maritime navigation simulator

REMBRANDT is a ship navigation simulator that helps maritime users to safely plan, train and prepare for marine navigation in a simulated environment.

BMT’s certified ship simulator combines leading hydrodynamic engines and ship models with 3D visualisations. This enables world leading marine pilot training, maritime accident investigation, maritime simulation studies for port development and complex navigation, as well as advances in autonomous ship navigation.

Our maritime simulator is highly adaptable and is available as a stand-alone desktop ship simulator software or a full bridge simulator with console.

Our ship simulation software solution is ideal for clients who require a portable and cost-effective way to perform ship handling and maritime modelling simulations. BMT REMBRANDT can be installed on a laptop or desktop to perform marine pilot and officer training as well as maritime simulation studies onboard vessels.

Mooring simulation

Using BMT REMBRANDT to investigate complex piloting and manoeuvring procedures in a simulated environment can enhance maritime operations, improve marine pilot decision-making, and reduce risk. Maritime simulation studies can be undertaken for the development of new ports through to manoeuvring large vessels in restricted channels.

Certified and approved simulator systems

REMBRANDT is an approved navigation maritime simulator under DNV Class A (full mission), B (multi-task), C (limited task) and S (special task). It is also approved to BAW (Bundesanstalt fur Wasserbau, on behalf of the Federal Waterways and Shippi


The simulators configurable controls allow for a variety of maritime conditions to simulate realistic environments. These include reduced visibility, day and night settings, wind and current shielding, multi-directional swells and complex current flows. The software supports S57 and S63 ENCs charts and generates topography and bathymetric visuals. The system is AIS-enabled, allowing real-time displays of live traffic as part of a vessel simulation.

The system is scalable and operates on a wide range of platforms from laptops through to and full mission bridge hardware configuration. REMBRANDT also integrates with radar, ECDIS and GMDSS modules for a complete marine simulation.

3D Hydrodynamic Modelling and Visualisation

The system includes a large database of six degree of freedom hydrodynamic models for ships, floating oil and gas platforms and smaller craft. All our models are calibrated using sea trial data and pilot cards. They also include real life ship handling events such as squat, bank effects and ship-ship interaction.

BMT will deliver its first REMBRANDT® DNV Class A, B and C Full Mission Bridge Simulator at a Maritime Academy in Sabah, following a successful roll out of the technology to numerous academies across the Indonesian market.
