The Rapid Ship Evaluation Tool (RSET) reduces the time and effort required to produce a general arrangement during the early stages of ship design. By quickly producing arrangements that meet a set of constraints specified by the designer, the tool helps to explore the design space and investigate how the arrangement of compartments affects the overall vessel to quickly evaluate ship concept designs.
RSET allows the designer to experiment with various combinations of compartments and constraints to meet different objectives, such as the need to minimise the hull form size and thereby minimise construction cost.
The software is very easy to use, with an intuitive user interface and an interactive 3D model that is updated as changes are made to the design. A 3D hull form model is the only required input - all other aspects of the design that are used for compartment arrangement can be defined within the software.
The tool is currently part of the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation project SHIPLYS and is under ongoing development.
