Our staff are given every opportunity to fully develop their skills by working on challenging, leading-edge projects, supported by appropriate development and training initiatives.
We provide the environment that gives people the freedom and autonomy to achieve their potential, professionally and personally. Each employee has a personal development plan that is reviewed annually with their manager.
Recognising that people develop in different ways, BMT provides relevant training and development opportunities in a variety of formats. These range from mentoring and coaching to formal courses and e-learning. Staff can also go on secondments or work exchanges to other BMT companies.
In addition, we created a Development Centre to bring staff together with a focus on exploring key leadership skills and competencies for the future. Participants receive detailed feedback from a team of trained assessors on their performance across a range of competency-based exercises. Personal development plans are then drawn up to meet individual development needs and objectives.
Around 80% of BMT staff are graduates and many also possess post-graduate qualifications. We actively encourage Continued Professional Development (CPD) for each member of staff to pursue additional qualifications.
As an example, The Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) accreditation courses exist to enable graduates to reach professional chartered status and some of our companies are accredited Investors in People.
