Flexibility: This is a full time role. 

Location: In terms of location, we have offices in Bath, Bristol, London, Fareham, Plymouth, Weymouth & Aberdeen, and we are happy to explore flexible and hybrid working arrangements. Please note that travel to customer sites or to attend meetings will be required.

About The Role


We are looking for a Sales Account Manager – Industry II to join our team at BMT. This is a key sales position focused on securing profitable order intake in a rapidly growing area of our business. You will manage client accounts, identify new leads, and assist in preparing proposals and presentations. Maintaining and progressing a healthy sales pipeline is central to the role, as is tracking opportunities and ensuring timely follow-ups.


You will work closely with senior sales and delivery teams in the ships and submarine sectors to understand client needs, coordinate meetings, and help convert prospects into signed projects. The role also involves collaborating with the Sales Account Manager for Industry, with client demarcation being dynamic. Defence primes will largely be pursued by the Sales Account Manager for Industry, while broader industry clients will be managed by you.


Working alongside Senior Business Development Managers for Commercial Maritime and Defence, you will help develop and implement long-term plans to position and grow BMT’s capabilities and technologies within the UK and EU. You will lead cross-functional teams in the pursuit of new business and bring the voice of the customer into BMT, providing feedback to product and delivery teams for capability improvements.

Key responsibilities

  • Meet order intake targets for the Industry account, including sales forecasting and budget input
  • Build and strengthen the sales order pipeline
  • Manage account overhead budgets, and bids and proposals budget as appropriate
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, understanding their business needs and objectives
  • Ensure a coordinated approach to customer relationship development across the business
  • Identify new business opportunities by analysing market trends and customer behaviours
  • Lead the capture and bidding of prospects, including developing win strategies and selecting partners
  • Attend events and exhibitions to promote BMT
  • Develop strong working relationships with the Head of Industry Programme, sales team, and supporting functions





About You


You’ll enjoy working with a variety of people and building effective networks, both locally and internationally. Your experience in sales or business development means you understand how engineering consultancy projects operate and have a good grasp of market trends. You adapt quickly to changing business needs and are keen to help the business grow.


You’re skilled at solving problems and can explain complex ideas clearly to customers and colleagues. You’re confident presenting to different audiences and know how to make your message engaging and easy to understand. You work well with others, motivate those around you, and are ready to make a positive impact in our team.


A degree in business or engineering, or familiarity with Shipley processes, would be helpful but is not essential. What matters most is your approach and your ability to build strong relationships.
