BMT is hiring its first Equipment Manager to support our Environment team in Brisbane or Perth. You’ll lead the management of over 300 pieces of specialized equipment and assets. From water monitoring kits and sediment tools to diving gear, cameras, boats, and vehicles.

As our first Equipment Manager, you’ll lead the development of frameworks and processes to ensure the strategic oversight, coordination, and optimization of scientific equipment used in aquatic environmental assessments across Australia.
This role is key to ensuring our scientific equipment is available, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant across diverse aquatic field operations. You’ll drive improvements in planning, logistics, asset tracking, and cost models, supporting teams nationwide.

  • Develop and manage systems for equipment standardisation across teams and regions.
  • Coordinate the efficient logistics of shipping equipment to and from remote or aquatic field sites.
  • Ensure timely dispatch and return of equipment, minimizing downtime and supporting smooth project execution.
  • Work with commercial and finance teams to improve budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting related to equipment.
  • Contribute to procurement decisions for new or replacement scientific equipment, based on technical knowledge, field requirements, and supplier capability.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and innovations in marine and aquatic monitoring to inform investment decisions.

About you

To be successful in this role, you should:
  • Experience managing complex scientific or technical assets, ideally in environmental consultancy or field-based research
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, especially when coordinating logistics to remote locations
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency in using and managing asset tracking systems or equipment registers
  • Financial literacy and experience developing cost models for equipment use or hire
Knowledge and practical experience with specialized marine and aquatic scientific equipment, particularly water quality monitoring instrumentation is highly desirable.
