About The Role

We’re seeking innovative and motivated individuals to join our growing Naval Architecture capability. If you’re passionate about designing and supporting ships and ready to make an impact, we’d love to hear from you.

We currently have an opening for a Senior Naval Architect with over five years of experience. In this role, you’ll lead technical consultancy projects—primarily in the defence sector, but also across broader domains. Your expertise will contribute to areas such as hull form design and optimisation, weight estimation, stability, manoeuvring, and seakeeping.

You’ll work across the full ship lifecycle—from concept design through to in-service support—focusing on ship design, acquisition advisory, and safety assurance. Our team is involved in recent high-profile programmes including the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Tide Class Tankers and Future Solid Support Ships (FSS), as well as through-life support for UK warships and auxiliaries.

At BMT, we foster a culture of curiosity and challenge. You’ll be part of a collaborative environment where innovation is encouraged, and your ideas can shape the future. You’ll lead and contribute to a variety of exciting projects, while also having the opportunity to initiate and drive internal R&D efforts.

About You

You will have:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Naval Architecture or a closely related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional institution, or a clear and demonstrable pathway to achieving it.
  • Proven experience in the defence sector, with a strong understanding of both defence and commercial standards, including classification society rules.
  • Expertise in hull form design and optimisation, weight estimation, stability analysis, manoeuvring, and seakeeping assessments.
  • Proficiency in naval architecture software, particularly Paramarine, alongside other industry-standard tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively within project teams and with clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching colleagues, supporting both project delivery and the development of less experienced team members.
  • A track record of delivering high-quality work and ensuring outputs meet relevant standards through rigorous checking and review.
Missing skills? Let us be the judge! BMT are passionate about people; we recognise that technology moves quickly and that no one can learn everything, which is why we seek those who can adapt and demonstrate the aptitude to learn. With enthusiasm and the right attitude, we can help you discover your potential.

This role will require full UK security clearance, and you should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.
