Jetty Engineering Design and Project Management for a Chemical Facility

Requirements

Vopak Terminal Zhangjiagang is a 500,000cmb chemical facility in China which started operations in 2007. It has 88 tanks, two berths for barging and four vessel berths.

Solutions

During the terminal's early development phase, we were appointed to provide the engineering review and project management of the jetty.

The comprehensive scope of work included:

• Review of berthing analysis (fender design) and mooring analysis (mooring equipment design);
• Review of approach trestle – two sections, check loadings, pile loads and basic 2-D structural analysis checks;
• Review of wharf – pile analysis – 2D analysis checks layout of wharf-check loadings, pile loads and 2-D structural analysis of typical beam bent, pile cap and slabs;
• Review of mooring dolphin – loading and pile loads; structural analysis;
• Review of catwalks – loading and pile loads; structural analysis;
• Review of abutment – environmental loading; stability analysis;
• Review of flood protection dam and coastal works – geotechnical aspects, slope stability and slope protection;
• Advice on construction contract strategy and prepare tendering package (english version) including technical specifications as required;
• Review tender document for construction, evaluate bids submitted by the tenderers and propose recommendations;
• Assist with selection of the inspection company;
• Provide construction quality audit and technical advice;
• Establish pile driving criteria and pile acceptance criteria for all piles type;
• Inspect precast concrete factory to establish quality assurance procedure and inspect precast installation on site.
