Port of Brisbane Environmental Management & Planning | Australia

Supporting confident environmental and operational decisions across the port lifecycle

CONTEXT

The Port of Brisbane is Queensland’s largest multi-cargo port and one of Australia’s three major east coast container ports. BMT, and its predecessor organisations, has worked with Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd for several decades across environmental, engineering and port planning assignments, including approvals, dredging and reclamation, construction-phase environmental services, monitoring programs, rehabilitation investigations and channel evaluation.

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE

How does a major working port make confident decisions about growth, maintenance and environmental management while operating within a highly sensitive environmental, regulatory and community setting? Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd needs reliable evidence to support decisions across approvals, project delivery, safe channel access, environmental performance and long-term rehabilitation planning.

OUR SOLUTION

BMT, and its predecessor organisations, have supported Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd projects since the 1980s, with work that has followed the port through planning, approvals, construction and long-term environmental management. The Future Port Expansion Project was a major part of that story, involving approvals support and technical studies for dredging and reclamation, followed by engineering assistance and environmental services during construction. Since then, BMT’s role has continued through a wide range of approvals studies, monitoring programs, channel evaluation, coastal engineering, modelling and rehabilitation work.

OUTCOME

Decades of connected environmental evidence have enabled Port of Brisbane to make more informed decisions across approvals, project delivery, channel management and rehabilitation. That continuity has helped inform environmental performance tracking and practical rehabilitation planning.
