Assessing alternative fairway routes for major port development

Cyrene Reef, Singapore – Dynamic simulation helped assess alternative fairway routing options around Cyrene Reef to support safer navigation alongside major port and petrochemical infrastructure.

Requirement

Cyrene Reef is located at the entrance to the Pasir Panjang container terminals and petrochemical facilities at Jurong Island.

Development in this strategically important area created a need to understand how alternative vessel routing arrangements could support safe navigation.

Solution

We applied dynamic marine traffic simulation to investigate alternative fairway routing systems around Cyrene Reef, modelling how vessels could move through the different proposed arrangements.

Benefits

The modelling enabled alternative routing options to be assessed before implementation.

This gave decision-makers a stronger evidence base for marine planning, helping them consider navigational safety alongside the requirements of major port and petrochemical infrastructure.
