The partnership builds on IntoUniversity’s mission to provide local support that can break cycles of disadvantage and open up new opportunities for young people. The charity operates 46 centres across England and Scotland – from Newcastle to Norwich and East Ham to Edinburgh – supporting over 60,000 young people each year.
As part of this partnership, BMT has provided £10,000 of funding to support students across the UK. This funding has enabled IntoUniversity to deliver a series of immersive workshops aimed at supporting aspiration, educational attainment, and the development of human skills.
Laura Blake, Head of Sustainability at BMT, added:
“Partnering with IntoUniversity allows us to support long term, evidence based programmes that improve life chances for young people who face the greatest barriers to opportunity. For BMT, this is about living our values and contributing to a more equitable future, not just for our own sector but for the communities and societies we’re part of.”
BMT will not only provide much-needed financial support: BMT team members are also providing hands-on support through volunteering, sharing their professional skills and personal experiences with students. Volunteering initiatives include high‑energy ‘Business in Focus’ simulations and ‘Careers in Focus’ workshops, where BMT volunteers bring real world projects and career journeys to life for students. The aim is to inspire and empower participants to expand their aspirations for future higher education.
Employees are also acting as mentors to guide Year 13 students through their transition to university, in a programme that spans 18 months, beginning with the university application process and running through to the end of the first university term.
One BMT mentor involved in the corporate mentoring programme said:
“Spending time with my mentee each month has been a real privilege. You can see their confidence grow as they start to picture themselves at university and beyond. IntoUniversity provide fantastic structure and support, which means I can focus on listening, sharing my experience and helping them navigate some big decisions.”
