Will Alexander

Campaign Lead - Maritime Autonomous Systems

Will is BMT's Maritime Autonomy Deputy Team Leader and Mariner/Machine Integration Lead. He's taken on a leading role in establishing BMT’s Technical Authority and Consulting Business in Maritime Autonomy. Prior to BMT, Will spent two years working in Defence and Maritime Sector major programme delivery and consultancy at Turner & Townsend. This followed a successful career in the Royal Navy as a professional mariner and hydrographic surveyor. Most recently he worked within Future Capability Development leading a trials team with autonomous surface vessels and underwater vehicles to develop concepts for hydrographic and geospatial data collection.

As an RN STCW/II Master Mariner he commanded and delivered into service HMS MAGPIE. As an IHO Category A hydrographic surveyor Will has delivered surveys in support of critical national infrastructure and defence requirements. Will’s academic background is rooted in marine sciences as a graduate of the University of Plymouth MSc Hydrography and PGDip Applied Meteorology & Oceanography. Will is a member of the Association for Project Management and graduate of the Manchester Business School AMAC Strategic Leadership Course.
