At BMT, our Prism network is more than just a committee - it’s a community. Prism represents the interests of our LGBTQ+ colleagues and their allies across all three of our regions, helping ensure that everyone feels supported, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work.
I know from personal experience how important this is. When I transitioned at BMT, Prism became a safety net for me – a place where I could seek advice, share my journey, and feel understood. Having colleagues who had either lived through similar experiences or were willing to listen with empathy made all the difference. That sense of belonging is exactly what Prism aims to create for others.
Creating safe spaces through connections and celebration
One of the most visible ways we bring people together is through our Pride Pizza Parties every June. What started in North America has now spread to our UK, European, and APAC regions. These gatherings are open to everyone - not just LGBTQ+ colleagues - and they give us the chance to share stories, raise awareness, and celebrate inclusion. They’ve also sparked meaningful conversations, with colleagues telling me about family members who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. These connections remind us that allyship is not only about supporting coworkers, but also about recognising the people our colleagues love and care for outside of work.
Strengthening BMT's DE&I strategy
Prism also strengthens our wider DE&I strategy by ensuring that LGBTQ+ voices are represented in our planning and communications. As part of the Americas DE&I Committee, I often share updates and contribute content for our regional newsletter, making sure LGBTQ+ inclusion remains part of the conversation. Diversity, equity, and inclusion isn’t just about one community, it’s about embracing different perspectives, experiences, and identities to create an environment where everyone can thrive.
And that diversity makes us stronger. At BMT, we bring together people from the Navy, Army, Air Force, and civilian backgrounds, from across the world. Each of us brings something unique to the table. When colleagues feel safe, included, and respected, they can contribute fully - which leads to more collaboration, innovation, and better outcomes for our customers and business.
If I could leave one message for anyone considering joining BMT, it would be this:
"be comfortable being your authentic self, and don’t be afraid to connect with others."
Prism is here to remind you that you are valued, you are supported, and you belong.

For six weeks, I had the incredible opportunity of taking part in an Early Careers Development Placement in Cadiz, Spain, working on the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) Programme. The FSS programme is a key project for the Royal Navy, aiming to deliver new support ships to enhance the UK’s naval capabilities.

At 3am on a March morning, while many were still sleeping, our amazing colleagues in the Netherlands laced up their trainers and took on a 15km sunrise walk to raise money and awareness for ALS. This year’s walk carried even deeper meaning, as it was inspired by one of our own teammates recently diagnosed with the condition.
