Nico van Duijvenbode has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Studies. He spent his sea-going career as a deck officer on general cargo vessels, and in 1989 he began is career as a marine cargo surveyor working for various survey companies related to sea, road and air transport cargo / liability insurance. .

Nico joined BMT in 2003 initially focussing on P&I claims. In 2006, he was appointed Director of the Nautical Department, a position held for 8 years. During this time, he built extensive experience in refrigerated cargo (reefer) claims. In 2014, Nico chose to dedicate his career to this area of expertise. He now specialises in refrigerated cargoes, with in-depth knowledge of reefer container operations, handling and claims.

Nico is a recognised expert in cargo damage and loss with particular expertise in refrigerated shipments. –His experience covers cargo transported by sea, air and road. He is also a trained expert witness for London arbitrations.
