Key Responsibilities
The Structural Surveyor is responsible for professionally and efficiently undertaking surveys as part of a team, compiling survey findings, producing survey reports, developing repair specifications, and undertaking acceptance activities in a marine environment
General:
- Provide Naval Architecture advice and support to external and internal customers.
- Independently undertake technical work which requires coordination with colleagues and making a substantial contribution to assigned projects.
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Comply with relevant business and ethics codes of conduct.
- Undertake engineering activities in a way that contributes to best practice.
- Work within the BMT Quality Management System (QMS) processes and procedures.
- Maintain your technical competency in your area(s) of specialization.
- Demonstrate willingness and active adoption of coaching and mentoring provided by senior staff and support with mentorship to junior staff in developing technical competency.
- Contribute to building a positive team culture through input, feedback and participation in team building and wellness activities.
Role Specific:
- Demonstrated experience in conducting structural surveys on submarines or surface ships, including:
- Experience conducting visual inspections on tanks, compartment structure, pressure hull structure or hull penetrations.
- Competence in using surveyor tools such as pit gauges, feeler gauges, and bridge cam gauges.
- Identifying and mapping structural defects in a coordinate system for reporting purposes.
- Experienced in developing of survey packages from technical documentation.
- Ability to compile inspection findings and produce survey reports using customer supplied reporting templates.
- Support the development of repair specifications including:
- Request and assess the results from Non-Destructive Testing (NDE).
- Assess structures against relevant codes and standards to determine whether repairs are required.
- Develop technical specifications to resolve complex repairs.
- Provide input to risk assessments.
- Support quality assurance activities including:
- Conduct work acceptance and inspections to verify completion of key steps in repair sequences.
- Witness platform tests or trials as client representative.

Annual Salary: 105,000-130,000
