We are currently seeking Principal Consultant level Mechanical Engineers to join our Critical Infrastructure (CI) team in Melbourne and lead our expansion into new and developing markets. Our CI Team work and consult on a variety of different projects, including completing onsite inspection of heavy machinery, design reviews of mining & ports machinery and engineering design for heavy industry and maritime partners. 

The Principal Engineer will act as a work winning consultant, Project Manager and, lead project teams to deliver successful projects and to maintain our brand reputation for superior quality technical work with a high customer focus. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will also undertake technical tasks of advanced scope and complexity, working with other business leaders to share knowledge and advance the business. 

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:
  • Lead work winning and business development, proactively identifying new opportunities, shaping early conversations, driving pre-positioning activities and leading bids, proposals and commercial strategies that convert pipeline into secured work.
  • Manage and grow key client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor who maintains regular engagement, anticipates client needs and ensures high client satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Act as a visible representative of the business in the market, nurturing networks across industry and government, attending events, contributing to partnerships and increasing the organisation’s presence in target sectors.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers and technical colleagues to position the right capability for opportunities, develop winning strategies and ensure proposals are competitive, accurate and compelling.
  • Provide senior-level technical oversight where needed, ensuring projects are scoped appropriately, technical risks are considered early and work is delivered to a high standard.
  • Support and mentor others in technical and commercial areas, technically guiding engineers and designers/drafters and sharing commercial awareness and strengthening work winning literacy across the team.

  • You have a solid technical foundation in mechanical, structural or related engineering disciplines that enables you to understand client problems, scope work confidently and engage credibly with both clients and internal teams, without needing to be the technical specialist.
  •  You have a relevant engineering degree and professional registration (or eligibility), with approximately 15+ years’ experience in consulting, engineering or asset-intensive industries.
  • You have unrestricted working rights in Australia
