Description

Lead the Future of Coastal and Maritime Consulting

At BMT, we solve the most complex asset and environment-related challenges in the APAC region by delivering high-quality, high-value solutions. Our focus is on creating a safer, more sustainable future for our customers, supporting the lifecycle of complex and critical systems through data, insight, and trusted advice.
We achieve this through balanced, purpose-led growth, enabling sovereign capability, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure. As we grow, we remain committed to protecting our culture while scaling our impact, ensuring we are a trusted long-term partner to governments and industry across the region.

We are now seeking a high-impact leader to guide our Perth-based Coastal & Maritime team. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who combines technical depth with leadership energy and commercial discipline to grow people, win work, and deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.

As Principal Consultant and WA Coastal & Maritime Team Leader, you will lead a passionate and skilled technical team focused on coastal modelling, maritime engineering, and marine infrastructure. This role balances strategic leadership, commercial oversight, and delivery excellence. You will shape a high-performing team culture while also contributing directly to project delivery and work-winning.
You’ll play a key role in resourcing and capability development, mentoring future leaders, and ensuring that our WA operations are aligned with national and regional priorities.

Key Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide visible, energetic leadership to a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists, fostering a culture of performance, collaboration, and customer focus.
  • Ensure strong alignment between team capacity and regional priorities, working closely with Programme and Capability Managers to support growth and delivery outcomes.
  • Drive commercial performance by overseeing project utilisation, profitability, and workforce planning.
  • Lead team meetings, support knowledge sharing, and encourage collaboration across disciplines and locations.
  • Be a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and support implementation of BMT’s sustainability goals and values.
  • Manage career development, wellbeing, and performance reviews of team members.
  • Contribute to technical delivery and strategic work-winning as a Principal Consultant in your area of expertise.
  • Help shape and execute our APAC strategy from within the regional leadership group.

About you

What You'll Bring:
  • Proven leadership experience within a consultancy or project-based environment, including leading technical teams and mentoring staff.
  • Strong commercial acumen, able to manage team performance, forecast resourcing needs, and drive profitable delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to win work and build trusted relationships with clients, especially in coastal infrastructure, ports, marine studies, or dredging.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of uniting geographically dispersed teams behind shared goals.
  • A technical background in coastal or maritime engineering, with deep knowledge in areas such as modelling, structures, dredging, or resilience planning.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, science, or a related discipline.
  • Desirable: postgraduate qualifications in business, leadership, or project management.
The role works with other teams across APAC and a registration of RPEQ or RPEV would be helpful in the role, but is not mandatory.
