BMT Proteus in Action

As authors of the code for BMT Proteus, we can easily alter any of the parameters, allowing for fast exploration of multiple scenarios. In this demonstration, the parameter we have altered in modelling the dispersion of drill cuttings is the density of the released material.

Model A represents coarser material, for example sand-sized fractions. Model B represents finer materials, such as mud.

All other environmental parameters such as wave, currents, seabed, water density etc remain constant between both scenarios. By modelling the different types of material that will constitute the cuttings pile, we are able to quickly and affordably investigate a range of potential impacts that may result from such a varied release.
