Bankstown Civic Centre Stormwater Harvesting Study and Design

BMT WBM firstly improved the efficiency of water usage in the Council buildings surrounding the park, including cooling tower adjustments and improving the irrigation system, then investigated the feasibility of various alternate supply sources.

Bankstown Civic Centre and nearby Paul Keating Park are two of  Bankstown Council’s largest water users and an alternate supply was needed to sustainably maintain the park.

BMT WBM firstly improved the efficiency of water usage in the Council buildings surrounding the park, including cooling tower adjustments and improving the irrigation system, then investigated the feasibility of various alternate supply sources.

A stormwater channel under the precinct had a constant flow which was quality tested and found to be suitable for irrigation cooling tower and toilet flushing use. Demand modeling using evapotranspiration records and soil and grass condition allowed for an accurate sizing of the storage tanks for a cost effective solution.

An unobtrusive method of extracting the water from the canal was developed and Council adopted the system for future construction.  Our work included developing the detailed design documents for the project.
