- Picken Oval Water Harvesting Scheme
The Australian Rules Football field at Picken Oval has not been irrigated for several years and the condition deteriorated as a result.
A combined project to upgrade the field and provide a sustainable supply was commissioned by Sydney Water.
BMT WBM investigated options for stormwater harvesting, groundwater extraction and rainwater capture.
Limitations on the site included tidal estuarine water, asbestos roofing and space constraints.
Water demand was monitored at the club house cooling towers and toilets and a system of tanks designed to provide bulk supply for irrigation when needed and continual supply to the building.
The adopted scheme will save 1,350kL of potable water each year.
BMT WBM also assisted Sydney Water negotiate a discounted rate from suppliers for this and future projects.
