Within the Newcastle area, several pluviographs recorded rainfall well in excess of a 1 in 100 Year Event.
The result was substantial flash flooding across much of the city.
Within hours of the event, BMT WBM personnel were in the field assessing the damage and recording peak flood heights.
Subsequent to this, Council engaged BMT WBM to undertake a formal city-wide program of flood data collection.
This involved door knocking in areas that experienced flooding and the preparation of hard copy and on-line questionnaires.
The data gathered will be used by Council to verify the accuracy of its predictive flood models, and to help define and manage key problems areas across the city.
Approximately 1300 individual flood marks were recorded for the event.
