Prior to authorising maintenance for use on Royal Air Force (RAF) / Royal Navy (RN) aircraft fleets and RN ship/submarine fleets there is a requirement to ensure that Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) analysis has been conducted in accordance with the appropriate defence standard, Def Stan 02-45 or Def Stan 00-45 and the associated RAF/RN Instructions.
BMT provides RCM support and auditing services to the Ship Enabling Business Group within DE&S Ships Directorate. BMT conducts audits of analysis that has been carried out using both the NES45 Toolkit (in accordance with Def Stan 02-45) and the Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS) (in accordance with Def Stan 00-45).
BMT’s role is to review the major elements of the RCM analysis for appropriate application, completion and viability. During the audit, comments are included within the relevant sections of the analysis software.
BMT has conducted RCM audits on approximately 40 systems for the RN, on a variety of surface ships and submarines including Astute, Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC), Type 23 Frigate, Landing Platform Dock (LPD) and Helicopter (LPH).
BMT was involved with developing the original RCM standard for the RN (known as NES45) and went on to provide RCM training courses, on behalf of the RN, predominantly to RN staff. BMT has also conducted RCM analysis for RN ships and submarines under Def Stan 00-60 ILS contracts.
BMT has provided RCM support and auditing services to the UK MoD since 1995.
