Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter ‘Focus’

The theme of this issue is Collaborative Autonomous Intelligence, one of our strategic campaigns.

It draws together a series of articles written by a range of organisations exploring the rich seascape of perspectives covering legal, regulatory and people elements complemented by overviews of some of our projects and their achievements. These include:

  • Improvements being made to unmanned marine systems and how L3 ASV Global, in collaboration with BMT, is working on a wide range of exploratory projects to produce a world class capability in this rapidly developing market.

  • The SUNNY Programme - the development of an intelligent aerial sensor network to monitor the external borders of the EU to combat cross-border crime and prevent the loss of migrant lives at sea. The project has now been successfully completed, demonstrating an aerial sensor network with improved sensor and data transmission capacities and real-time data processing capabilities.

  • The emerging challenges of building trust and public acceptance of autonomous systems, artificial intelligence and data-driven innovation. Just how much trust is enough?

  • Autonomy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), Emma Parkin, a young professional at ASV Global has been inspired, enthused and unsettled about what the future might hold in this field.

We are delighted to see so many articles from outside of BMT in this edition.  We hope the articles will fascinate and inspire you. We welcome the opportunity to discuss the topics in more depth, in particular where you may have alternative views, it is only through creating a diversity and depth of ideas and opinions that we will be able to guide ourselves, our customers and our partners as we march into this uncertain future.
