In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, we would like to share the experiences from our apprentices both past and present. The week highlights the positive impact apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses, and the economy. to getting back to once restrictions allow.
“My apprenticeship so far has given me the chance to learn, develop and gain more experience, as well as providing me with an insight into the industry of Naval Engineering. I have gained knowledge and insight into a variety of systems from completing the Power and Propulsion and Auxiliary Systems training. I have also joined BMT’s Technical Women’s Forum.
I am looking forward to progressing through the rest of the apprenticeship with BMT!”
“I joined as a Software Developer apprentice at BMT in 2018. BMT put me through a course, which I attended classes for every month to help me understand the fundamentals of code and how to create websites. As an apprentice, I worked on many customer facing projects as part of a development team, which helped me understand how our sites were built and run. Doing this qualification helped me understand my role and I was promoted within the company to take more responsibility after I completed the programme.”
“I have really enjoyed working for BMT as an apprentice since I joined back in September last year. Although there have been difficulties working from home, everyone has been really welcoming and helpful towards my growth as an engineer. Since joining BMT, I have worked on Type 45 projects, helped develop innovation ideas and spoken to many new people.”
“So far in my apprenticeship with BMT I have undertaken a lot of training to make me proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD). Along with this I have also learnt how to read and produce engineering drawings. This is necessary to be able to do my job and has placed me ahead in college as I already have plenty of experience with the topics that are scheduled for later in the year.”
“I have been an apprentice at BMT for 16 months and throughout this time I have found it a pleasure. BMT has proven to be a great place to develop my engineering ability and knowledge. I am working on interesting projects and there is an opportunity to travel for ship surveys, which I look forward to getting back to once restrictions allow.”
