The 2021 hurricane season is expected to be more active than average.

1 July 2021

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a "60% chance of an above-normal season" with "13 to 20 named storms...of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher)" and "3 to 5 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher)"¹.

In a particular forecasting activity, Colorado State University calls for 17 named storms, eight hurricanes and four major hurricanes².
