Olivier has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Studies and Marine Engineering. After 6 years seagoing experience as Maritime Officer with engineering specialisation on board different vessels, Olivier started his career as a marine surveyor. Shortly afterwards he switched to the role of a risk manager / technical advisor with a P&I Club. In 2007 he joined BMT, dealing with almost all types of surveys, both nautical and technical.
Because of his experience with condition assessments of seagoing vessels, Olivier has set up and headed our Risk & Quality Department for several years. Furthermore Olivier has also been the driving force in creating our MATE inspection platform, which is facilitating ship inspections for major shipping lines.
During his complete career with BMT, Olivier handled a large variety of casualties, the vast majority of which being technical matters. These include machinery breakdown, hull damage, collisions, groundings and bunker disputes, acting for H&M underwriters, P&I clubs and cargo insurers. Olivier has further served as expert witness on several litigation matters for the Dutch and Australian court, amongst others dealing with machinery failure.
As from October 2020, Olivier heads the technical department of the Rotterdam office.
