The 2021 hurricane season is expected to be more active than average.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a "60% chance of an above-normal season" with "13 to 20 named storms...of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher)" and "3 to 5 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher)"¹.
In a separate forecasting activity, Colorado State University calls for 17 named storms, 8 hurricanes and 4 major hurricanes².
There has never been a more critical time to prepare for, monitor, and report on potential damage from storms.
