The Blue Economy CRC will be holding its Annual 2021 Participant Workshop on the 24th – 26th March, 2021 in Brisbane, Queensland. This workshop is open to Blue Economy CRC participants and invitees only.
The event will run over three days and incorporate keynote sessions and interactive workshops between participants across the CRC's five research programs.

Andrew Harris is a naval architect with 25 years of experience, primarily in UK naval ship procurement and in-service support. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in ship science from the University of Southampton in 1995 and joined BMT the following year. Since relocating to South Australia in 2019 Andrew has undertaken support to marine renewable energy projects alongside his more usual naval sector work. Andrew has a developing professional interest in the exploitation of renewable energy technology, and he is a passionate advocate of marine sustainable development.
Dan Machado is an Associate Principal Engineer with 15 years of experience in water, environmental, coastal and metocean projects in 5 continents. He has a strong and diverse technical background, with Honours degrees in civil engineering and environmental science and a PhD in environmental engineering, specialising in environmental fluid dynamics and ecology. Daniel has professional experience in engineering design, environmental assessment and management, research, innovation and project management, with diverse skills including advanced numerical modelling and data analysis. He is committee member of the Coastal, Ocean and Port Engineering Panel (COPEP) at Engineers Australia.
David Rissik is a Senior Principle at BMT. He has a background in coastal ecology and climate change adaptation and a strong interest in the use of research to support decision policy regulation and management. He is a keen advocate of the use of ocean energy and other approaches to decarbonisation of the economy. David sits on the Science Advisory Committee of the BE CRC and is an active member of the Australian Ocean Energy Group.
Chris Shearer is a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer, including RPEQ, NER, and CPEng. Chris joined BMT in 2011 and is a Senior Mechanical Engineer, providing engineering consulting and design services to various sectors including mining, ports, bulk materials handling, manufacturing, insurance, renewable energy and defence.
He performs various roles from mechanical and structural design, design auditing, and independent technical review. He is competent in using various software packages including AutoCad, Solidworks and SpaceGass. Chris's on-site project experience includes undertaking project engineering roles, shutdown management, inspection, auditing, and maintenance management. Chris has been one of BMT’s project leaders within the BE-CRC since inception, and has led a Scoping Study project.
The Blue Economy CRC brings together, for the first time, national and international expertise in aquaculture, marine renewable energy and marine engineering as part of a single, collaborative project. Through integration of the knowledge and expertise across these sectors, this CRC is paving the way for innovative, commercially viable and sustainable offshore developments that will see step changes in marine renewable energy output and seafood production.
