Senior Environmental Consultant

Since joining BMT WBM in 2000 I've worked on an amazing range of projects - from conservation to controversial development - extending from Australia to Tunisia.

I began my career as an environmental scientist, conducting water quality monitoring and SCUBA surveys of the marine environment, vegetation baseline studies, and monitoring on remote Australian mine sites. My background in science and environmental law enabled me to work on very varied conservation and coastal planning projects in Queensland. These projects took me to Queensland's coastal communities in the midst of natural disasters, to areas of great natural beauty and cultural significance such as Kakadu National Park, and gave me the chance to consult with the Aboriginal traditional owners and other local community members who have so much knowledge to contribute to the projects we work on.

In 2005 I took a year off to work on a community-based coastal and marine conservation project in Papua New Guinea. BMT WBM subsequently offered me the chance to build business in that country. We now have a continuing and ever-increasing flow of work from Papua New Guinea in most of our specialist fields for the mining, government and agribusiness sectors, and are looking to expand into new sectors. There is currently a team of six staff who travel to Papua New Guinea regularly to do field work, and it is great to see them learn about the country and enjoy the culture and the generosity of the people as much as I do.

In addition to building the Papua New Guinea business I'm continuing to fulfil my role in Australia as a Senior Environmental Consultant, conducting environmental and social assessments, and obtaining project approvals for customers.

My dual qualifications, the trust and confidence BMT has had in my abilities, and the company's continuing investment into my development, has opened the door to a range of opportunities. The company selected me to attend the BMT Development Centre in the UK, and I'm now following this up with leadership training in Australia.
