My company has a culture of promoting independent thinking, challenging the status quo, and developing the newest technology for the industry.
I have been with BMT WBM since 2005 and every year has offered something exciting and different. I work within the mining machinery group, so we deal with the largest equipment in the world, in the harshest of environments. It has taken me all across North America and I have also worked in South America and Africa.
There are few restrictions or limitations to my employment. My company has a culture of promoting independent thinking, challenging the status quo, and developing the newest technology for the industry. In fact it is quite difficult for me to specifically define my role at BMT WBM because I am not limited to one specialty.
I have done everything from strain gauge measurements on electric shovel crawler frames at sub-zero temperatures in Labrador, Canada to setting up fleet-wide dragline monitoring systems all across the US. One of my favourite projects was small but challenging: in six weeks we had to create a product that could accurately weigh the mass of a loaded dragline bucket up to 800,000lbs. It has been very satisfying to be constantly challenged and to be able to contribute to a company in so many ways.
Within WBM we work as a team. If you need help from someone who is outside of your project, you get it, whether they are in your office or 8000 miles away. It is a highly creative and flexible work environment and the people I work with treat me with respect and care about me on a personal level. It is a rare commodity to work for a company which places a higher value on its people than on its technology or assets.
