The Role

BMT Designers & Planners is seeking a Senior System Engineer to support U.S. Navy ships and systems design and production engineering, acquisition, concept studies and preliminary design, and technology development. This role includes the planning and engineering of organizational systems infrastructure including the implementation and design of hardware and software and monitoring the performance of systems. The System Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide Total Ship Systems Engineering technical and management support throughout the development, design production, delivery, and testing phases
  • Provide technical support for introduction, development and fielding in the areas of Ship Design/Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, Combat Systems, C4I systems, Aviation Integration and Mission Package Integration
  • Monitor developments in the ship design industry and advise on risk areas, changes, and certification, lifecycle or other systems integration impacts
  • Support technical reviews, analyses, evaluations, approval and baseline management of government and Industry designs
  • Support the development of design solutions for production and development challenges
  • Coordinate lessons learned from Test and Trials results and assist in developing corrective actions
  • Assist in developing and maintaining Systems Engineering Plan, Design Manual, and Ship Design Guide
  • Assist in the development of procurement packages and monitoring of execution of Contractor Special Studies related to design/systems engineering
  • Provide engineering, analysis, and technical studies support
  • Assist in the coordination of Science and Technology (S&T) efforts
  • Assist in research, planning, budgeting, and execution in support of Test and Evaluation

Work Location: Washington, DC

Candidates must be a US citizen with a DOD security clearance or employment is contingent upon obtaining a security clearance.  Company will not sponsor work visa or relocation for this position.

The Individual

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree and 8+ years of relevant experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years' U.S. Navy ship acquisition program experience required
  • Minimum 5 years' experience providing technical support in one or more of the following disciplines: ship design, HM&E systems, combat systems, C4I systems, aviation integration and mission package integration
  • Familiarity with standard naval systems engineering concepts, practices and procedures
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary project team
  • Demonstrated ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Proven ability to lead and direct the work of others
