Modelling and simulation offers powerful ways to support a wide range of project planning and operational decision making.  This can range from the design of ports and shore-side / offshore terminals through to navigation in restricted channels of ships or offshore platforms.  Moreover, it allows the testing of operational scenarios including emergency response planning, tug availability and the impacts of propulsion or steerage equipment failure.

We have many years’ experience in all aspects of ship manoeuvring from full-scale trials, free running and captive model tests to mathematical prediction and simulation. 

Our ship hydrodynamic models are fully calibrated against sea trials, pilot cards and mariners experienced in the navigation of relevant vessels.  A wide range of environmental conditions are captured.  These include: reduced visibility, day/night settings, wind and current shielding, multi-directional swells and spatially variable current flows. Physical phenomena such as squat, bank effects and ship-to-ship interaction are all modelled.
