The Role

Technical Author

What’s the role?

As part of our ambitious growth plans, new positions have been created within our Technical Information and Documentation Services (TIDS) team, which sits within our successful Asset Performance Services (APS) business line.

We are looking for experienced Technical Authors to provide technical authoring services for our customers, whilst delivering best practice. You will support technical projects, using appropriate tools, methods and techniques; presenting information in a clear, concise and logical manner; and create templates in line with documentation standards. As Technical Author you will have customer contact and engage with project management colleagues to ensure that work meets the customers’ expectations, as well as being delivered to schedule and cost.

The roles will be based in our Weymouth or Bath office, however, we offer flexible and remote working to give our staff choice and adaptability. We also welcome applications from candidates looking to work part-time hours. Travel to customer sites or to attend meetings may be required.

If you are looking for a new opportunity within a welcoming and supportive team – which will allow direct personal satisfaction of a job well done – then this is the role for you.

What are we looking for?

You will have a good standard of English (GCSE level or higher) and excellent MS Word and Excel skills. We work in a team model, often across sites, so your ability to work well in a team and convey information effectively is key. Authoring experience in Framemaker, Arbortext and Adobe would be an added benefit, but this is not essential.

Experience and understanding of MoD technical documentation management and format and configuration procedures would be beneficial. If you also have experience of UK MoD or industry technical documentation types and common standards, such as S1000D, we’d love to hear about this too.

We are happy to help you to develop professionally and can provide training on specific standards or other author related skills, such as Simplified Technical English.
