Your role is at the core of everything BMT does. You will help us to craft technically creative and significant web application for customers around the world, developing your own skills and career in a supportive environment.
Are you looking to apply your software engineering knowledge to new and varied challenges? If so, this role may be for you.
What’s the role?
As part of our ambitious growth plans, new and exciting roles are being created within our expanding multi-disciplinary Information Systems team. The roles are ideal for Software Developers with experience and qualifications aligned to Level 3 of the SFIA Foundation Framework. You will work alongside UX Developers, Data Scientists, Scrum Masters and other technology subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop new web Apps and software for our clients.
Flexible and remote working is available, so we welcome applications from those not based in the Bath area - we have offices in Plymouth, Portsmouth, Weymouth, Barrow, Glasgow and London too. Travel to customer sites or to attend meetings may be required.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for Software Developers who are able to create and document detailed designs for simple software applications or components. You will be able to design, code, verify, test, document, amend and refactor moderately complex programs/scripts. You will be comfortable collaborating with other developers and SMEs, whether this be face-to-face or remotely, as well as supporting other SMEs as the project requires. We welcome an understanding of software testing and your ability to design test cases and text scripts, working with the dedicated Quality Assurance and Testing teams when required.
We are excited to work with you because you are an enthusiastic and inquisitive communicator, collaborator and implementer. As a Software Developer you will utilise your skills to investigate problems in systems, processes and services and assist in the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the collective evidence and conduct of formal audits, which is important to maintain our accreditation.
A key element of the role is to liaise with customers and clients to clarify the details of requirements. You will need to ensure that outputs are accurate, relevant, and current, having taken account of the client needs.
What can we offer you?
We believe in hiring the best talent, from diverse backgrounds, as this introduces new ideas to the team and our customers. This role will be part of the wider Information Systems team which is growing fast and works across different space, defence and security sectors and markets.
At BMT we ensure that our people have access to the training and mentoring they need to be the best at what they do. We constantly strive to improve our working environment and provide everyone with the tools and applications they need to do their roles effectively. You will have the chance to work and play with the latest software technologies, and we will support your professional development with licences, subscriptions and cloud computing credits.
The wellbeing of the team is central to our success, so workloads are managed effectively and we don’t have a work late culture. On top of this we have a host of benefits and family friendly policies designed to support our people. We also run an annual hackathon where the whole team can really let loose and experiment.
