The Role

Cost Consultant

What’s the role?

As part of our ambitious growth plans, we have opportunities for an experienced cost estimating and forecasting Consultant to join our Consultancy and Advisory business line. The role is ideal for costing specialists who are familiar with recognised estimating methodologies and techniques.

Our Cost Consultancy team delivers cost management expertise and solutions to customers within the defence and security sectors, including Government departments.

We can be flexible on location either in our main offices in central Bath, remote working or out of our other office locations, so we welcome applications from those not based in the Bath area. Our clients are situated throughout the UK: central London, the North West, South and the Bath/ Bristol area. There is travel required to customer sites or to attend meetings.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for Costing Consultants with experience in a variety of estimating methods – from analogous and comparative through to parametric and bottom up techniques; in support of both hardware and/or software systems acquisitions and/or through life support.

You will be comfortable applying these estimating techniques to inform Economic Appraisals, Trade Studies and/or Cost Benefit Analysis. You will also be confident in using MS Excel as a cost modelling tool.

As much of our work is client focused, your ability to present and articulate complex work clearly to stakeholders is important.

Whilst an understanding of Earned Value Management techniques would be useful, along with the ability to develop robust cost models that satisfy independent verification and validation scrutiny, your desire to quickly accrue this knowledge and experience is more important to us.

We value professional qualifications and professional registration with appropriate institutions. Relevant professional bodies might be ICEAA or ACostE and you might hold professional qualifications such as CCEA, ICostE or CPCostE. We can provide support, training and tailored experience in order for you to achieve these, if not already held.

What can we offer you?

We appreciate the importance of having a solid development structure.  At BMT we ensure that our people have access to the training and mentoring that they need to be the best at what they do.  We constantly strive to improve our working environment and provide everyone with the tools and applications they need to do their roles effectively.

The wellbeing of the team is central to our success, so workloads are managed effectively and we don’t have a work late culture. On top of this we have a host of benefits designed to support our people, such as additional holiday purchase, private medical cover and a personal development fund for gym/sports clubs or non-work related evening classes.
