Engineering Consultant

Job Details

The Role

Who are we?

BMT provides independent technical expertise and consultancy. We offer concept design, asset management, programme management and technology services to customers in the defence, security, transport, energy and infrastructure markets. Our team thrive on tackling the most complex engineering and programme challenges, and are adept at blending capabilities from the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines to deliver enduring and value-adding solutions. As an Employee Benefit Trust, we are genuinely independent and have the freedom to put our people and our customers first.

What’s the role?

In support of our continuing growth, we are seeking additional consultant and senior consultant level staff to support our activities in Strategic Obsolescence Management primarily for the Defence sector.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in this expanding business and in time, progress further within the BMT group of companies.

This role will include:

  • Developing and implementing methodologies for military platforms that provide an auditable assessment of the through life costs to resolve obsolescence.
  • Developing and implementing methodologies to understand platform obsolescence risk and prioritise mitigation activities in accordance with Key Capability Requirements (KCR).
  • Forecasting unavailability in capability due to obsolescence to justify investment to resolve.
  • Identifying and implementing strategic initiatives that reduce the obsolescence burden to our customers across their whole product range.
  • Senior stakeholder engagement for endorsement of strategic initiatives.

Who could do this role?

This is usually the part where we rattle off a long list of technical skills and experience that the right candidate would need in order to perform the role.  However, the person we are looking for can’t be defined by a list of qualifications or from having undertaken a specific role before.  What we are looking for is someone who has the drive and passion to build up a first class tailored service and product for our clients, from nothing.

The successful candidate will have the ability to develop strategies and good practices that challenge how things are done and entrenched cultural attitudes.  They will have a high level of self-motivation that drives them to deliver, and a natural ability to invite trust from our clients to draw out their true needs and aspirations, so that they can deliver something exceptional.

This role requires system-engineering experience with sound commercial acumen, and a fundamental understanding of what makes a business tick.  The successful candidate would certainly be in good stead if they have had exposure to financial constraints, procurement strategies, engineering design practices including change management and inventory and configuration management within a defence environment.

Why work with us?

At BMT, we appreciate the importance of having a solid development structure. We ensure that our people have access to the training and mentoring that they need to be the best at what they do. We constantly strive to improve our working environment as well as providing everyone with the tools and applications they need to do their roles effectively.

The wellbeing of the team is central to our success and we have a host of benefits designed to support our people such as additional holiday purchase, private medical cover and a personal development fund for gym/sports clubs or non-work related evening classes.
