BMT have exciting and ambitious plans for growth. Would you like to be a part of our successful Asset Performance Services (APS) business line? We are currently recruiting for a Technical Author at our Barrow-in-Furness site.

What is the role?
We are looking for an experienced Technical Author to become an integral member of the Technical Information and Documentation Services team. 

As Technical Author you will provide technical authoring services for our customers, whilst delivering best practice. You will have some customer contact and engage with project management to ensure that work meets the customers’ expectations, as well as being delivered to schedule and cost.

What are we looking for? 

Ideally you will hold an appropriate qualification in a relevant engineering discipline with a good standard of English and excellent MS Word and Excel skills, with applications such as Framemaker, Arbortext and trilogy being an added benefit. In addition, you will have experience and understanding of MoD technical documentation management, format standards and configuration procedures. If you have experience of the UK MoD or industry technical documentation types and common standards, such as S1000D, please tell us about this.  

We can provide training on specific standards or other author related skills such as Simplified Technical English. Whilst not essential, knowledge of submarine damage control documentation and Broadvision Quicksilver application would be helpful. We work in a team model, often across sites, so the ability to work well in a team and convey information effectively is important.
