BMT appoints new lead to support the delivery of technical excellence

BMT has appointed Simon Mathieson as its Technical Assurance and Capability Director, with responsibility for leading and co-ordinating the quality and consistency of our technical delivery.

BMT has appointed Simon Mathieson as its Technical Assurance and Capability Director, with responsibility for leading and co-ordinating the quality and consistency of our technical delivery.

The role also takes a strategic view of our future capability requirements and championing the professional development of our people.

The leadership of Technical Assurance and Capability is therefore fundamental to our success.

I am delighted that Simon is taking on this role as he brings to this role a strong technical background and a good knowledge of BMT having previously held the position of Technical Manager for Commercial Shipping."

Simon commented:
“I am excited to be appointed as the Technical Assurance and Capability Director. BMT has a wealth of expertise across so many sectors, and I look forward to providing leadership and support to our people in furthering our technical assurance activities in partnership with the future-oriented strands of our strategy, innovation, and digital ambitions.

Building on the work done to date, I will be looking at a range of initiatives across Technical Assurance and Capability, including our Communities of Interest, Learning from Experience (LFE) and Knowledge Management.”

Simon has had a varied career in the marine industry, which started as a seagoing marine engineer on large passenger vessels. After a period of further study, he worked at Lloyd’s Register’s Technical Investigation Department and their Ship Emergency Response Service.

Since joining BMT, he has worked in the Southampton office, delivering high-speed lightweight vessel designs across defence and commercial markets.

Simon is a chartered engineer, a chartered marine engineer, a member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and a member of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology.
