BMT announces appointment to the company’s Marine Surveys business

BMT in the UK and Europe has announced a new senior business development managerial appointment, effective this month, which will support the delivery of the company’s Marine Surveys’ strategy.

BMT is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Bell as their new Senior Business Development Manager for Maritime Surveys in the UK and Europe, effective this month. The appointment will support the delivery of the company’s Marine Surveys’ business strategy and growth under Dennis de Bruin’s leadership. With over 35 years of maritime experience, including casualty response, investigation and legal work, Andrew will be instrumental in bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.

As a Master Mariner and former Officer with the Royal Navy, Andrew has honed his analytical skills and gained invaluable experience. He spent thirteen years with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and worked in quality and safety management for a large commercial ship manager, where he was in daily direct contact with seagoing Masters. In his previous position as a Marine Manager (Casualty Investigator) for a city law firm, Andrew gained a thorough understanding of the commercial marine insurance and legal markets. His extensive background allows him to fully understand the challenges, regulation, and technical needs of our customers in these complex industries.

Andrew will be collaborating closely with our customers, and our growing network of surveyors and strategic partners, to provide them with a comprehensive understanding of BMT's global capabilities, helping them with compliance and advice as they navigate the ever-evolving challenges of the maritime sector.

Dennis de Bruin, Managing Director for Marine Surveys at BMT commented: “We are excited to have Andrew on board during a time of change in the industry when more focus is being applied to smart technologies, green shipping, and autonomous vessels. His vast experience and dedication to the expanding maritime sector make him a valuable asset to our team.”

Andrew commented: “I look forward to collaborating with our customers to review their current and future requirements, and to support them with improved capabilities and advice. An essential element of my role will be in staying ahead of industry trends, including pre-empting, and assessing challenges that are emerging in shipping and maritime law, and to gauge the impact on our customers’ businesses. I currently serve as the Honorary Secretary of the London Branch of the Nautical Institute where I have accumulated over 20 years of active contribution enhancing my appreciation of the challenges faced by the industry.”

Andrew has also been a volunteer lifeboat crew member on the river Thames over the past twenty-one years.
